The University of Blida and the state of Illizi in Algeria participated in organizing the first International Symposium about the Architecture of Desert Environment under the title “Symposium for Architecture in the Desert Environment between Authenticity and Modernity.. Reality, Challenges, and Prospects”. In response to the invitation of the conference management, Dr. Tarek Waly, the founder of the center, participated in the events of the symposium, in which professors and specialists in urbanism from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, Tunisia, the Sultanate of Oman, France, and several Algerian universities participated, during which three workshops were organized that focused on enriching the issue of desert heritage, desert housing, and urbanization of desert cities. During the symposium, Dr. Tarek Waly presented a lecture entitled “Potentials of Desert ... An Approach towards Architectural Hymns”, on the nature and capabilities of the desert environment and the characteristics of its architecture. The closing ceremony of the symposium, which continued over four days, honored the professors participating in this event in return for the efforts made to promote and value the urban cultural heritage in the region.
