Shimaa Shaheen holds a BSc in Architecture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University. She joined the Tarek Waly Center with the dream of building authentic Egyptian cultural forms that join traditional and contemporary work together, and that can contribute in reviving Arab civilization. She has worked on the center’s urban projects, and has researched and written about architecture and urbanism in Egypt as well as on the problematic issues that face the development of Arab culture in general.


Shimaa published her first book in 2012, titled: A Question towards Change within Arab Society. She writes regularly in the Waly Center Journal as well as in her own blog at:
