He founded the Tarek Waly Center Architecture and Heritage to create a platform in Egypt that can record his stance obtained from carrying out the profession theoretically and practically. Through research, creation and design he aims to achieve a better life for the individual and society.

Shimaa Shaheen is architect & researcher who believes in the role of the architect to create genuine cultural forms that connect authenticity & contemporaneity. She also believes in the necessity of practicing architecture through authentic cultural scopes that interact with society and take part in enrichment the public awareness of Arabic Cultural Contemporary issues generally and Architecture and Urban issues specifically.

Shimaa Shaheen is architect & researcher who believes in the role of the architect to create genuine cultural forms that connect authenticity & contemporaneity. She also believes in the necessity of practicing architecture through authentic cultural scopes that interact with society and take part in enrichment the public awareness of Arabic Cultural Contemporary issues generally and Architecture and Urban issues specifically.

Shimaa Shaheen is architect & researcher who believes in the role of the architect to create genuine cultural forms that connect authenticity & contemporaneity. She also believes in the necessity of practicing architecture through authentic cultural scopes that interact with society and take part in enrichment the public awareness of Arabic Cultural Contemporary issues generally and Architecture and Urban issues specifically. Shimaa published her first book “Question..Towards Change within the Arab Society” in 2012, and she continuously writes and publish on the center’s website and her personal blog.

Ehab Zaaqoq is an architect concerned about the Egyptian architectural movement in the 20th century and the Egyptian pioneer architects. He also interested in tracking the urban and social evolution of the Arabic cities through integrated approach that is not limited to the urban measurements only. Additionally, he believes in the necessity of utilizing the modern communication channels to create interactive dialogue between architects and society. Ehab also publish his works of documenting the works of the Egyptian pioneer architects on his personal blog.

Mohammed Attia is an architect Interested in studying and being informed on the modern aspects in the fields of Preservation of architectural heritage, urban development, and urban transport in the city. He believes that the center of his vision for the architectural practice in any of these areas is the human element; possessor of the heritage and the city. Mohammed also participated in a number of activities to develop his knowledge in his fields of interest through various readings and involvement in a number of specialized events and workshops within the scope of his mentioned interests.

Sama Waly
Artist & Art Researcher

Sama Waly is currently training in several styles of martial arts, as well as directing her first feature-length documentary “My Father Looks Like Hassan Fathy” (release: 2020). She completed her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, in 2017, and has gone on to teach at Cairo Institute of Liber al Arts and Sciences, as well as exhibit, curate and lecture in various venues in Cairo, Chicago and internationally. Sama received her BA from the American University in Cairo in 2012, from the department of Performing and Visual Arts, with a minor in Arab and Islamic Civilization.

Sally Soliman
History Researcher

Sally Soliman is a history researcher who devotes her career to study & introduce the Ancient Egyptian Heritage. She is concerned about enriching the public awareness of the value of heritage and the necessity of the effective participation in the preservation of the endangered heritage. Sally also worked on organizing many campaigns and workshops for preserving the endangered heritage sites. She works in parallel on the documentation of the palaces and historic buildings of the 19th & 20th centuries.

Asmaa Sayed is the center’s archive administrator, she seeks through her work in Tarek Waly Center Architecture and Heritage to participate in boosting the value of public knowledge generally and history knowledge specifically and the necessity of both in creating constructive dialogue connecting the past and the future. Asmaa hopes for participation in supporting the contemporary generations to reform their conscious of their authentic Egyptian culture and rectification of this culture from its deformations through history.

Fatma Fekry is the center’s library administrator; she joined the team of Tarek Waly Center Architecture and Heritage to participate in spreading the awareness about the Egyptian history and assuring the necessity of creating a contemporary perspective that could deal with the heritage in a way makes it effective and positive. Fatma also has interest in identity & affiliation issues, and she believes that regaining the features of the Egyptian identity and elevating the values of affiliation are necessary to force the society towards a real civilization awakening.
