At the invitation of the Regional Center for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property ICCROM-Athar, Dr. Tarek Waly participated in the activities of the Second Arab Cultural Heritage Forum, which took place from 9-10 November 2020. Dr. Waly gave a presentation entitled “The Dilemma of Binaries... Heritage & Modernity... to preserve cultural identity” During which the issue of dualities of terms such as authenticity and contemporary, heritage and modernity in an invitation to re-understand and realize these terms without adhering to the contradiction of those terms so that our societies come out to be able to realize and preserve our true cultural identity as well as develop the Arab mind in a way that achieves its privacy and keeping pace with modernity.
During the forum’s activities, Tarek Waly Center Architecture and Heritage participated in the ICCROM Sharjah Award for Good Practices in Cultural Property Preservation in the Arab Region, through the nomination of the Stopplaere’s Rest House Rehabilitation project in the Luxor West Bank for the award’s shortlist.
All activities of the forum took place via Zoom platform, due to the conditions imposed by the global Corona pandemic.
